1983 Number 2 Hits

Here are the 1983 songs which didn't quite make it to number 1 and the tracks which stopped them. The stand out one for me is Freeez's I.O.U. which was held up by Paul Young's cover of Marvin Gaye's original 1962 hit, Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home). There's no real travesty, save for the hangover from the 1982 Christmas number 1 with the dreadful Renee and Renato preventing The Shakin' Stevens EP from taking its rightful place at the top of the chart. Shame really.
