Now I'm not pushing any particular political viewpoint here, but I firmly believe that much of the energy in 1980's music was derived from outright hostility to the Tories. Does this mean that if they get back in to power in the next month or so that we'll have a similar musical decade to the eighties? Well maybe - however, another big contributor to the eighties scene was punk-rock and there's not been anything like that for a good fifteen years...
