1982 Pat Eddery (Golden Fleece)
Posted in 1980s Derby Winners and tagged with Pat Eddery
When they talk about the importance of pedigree, this horse is a case in point (so too is his rider).
Sired by a former Derby winner Nijinsky, Golden Fleece was a bay stallion of uncommon ability. Pat Eddery, enjoying the second of his three Derby victories is the son of a jockey, Jimmy Eddery and the brother of Paul Eddery. The pair won the 1982 Derby by a distance of 3 lengths in a time of 2:34.27 from Touching Wood.
Sadly, Golden Fleece was just 5 years old when he died of cancer in 1984.
